“When you start working, everybody is in your studio- the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas- all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you are lucky, even you leave.”
~ John Cage, Composer, Music Theorist, Artist, and Philosopher
Having been creating for most of my life, I live in a world of ever changing art forms. I’ve worked in pencil, water color, clay, mixed media, wood, sidewalk chalk and currently in acrylic. Each medium provides it’s own form of joy. Each medium is captivating in it’s way and can wind itself effortlessly into the next obsession.
I try to stay in the moment or zen about what’s being created. I learned that from sidewalk chalk art which is created and then washes away with time.
I believe we exist to learn lessons and art is a great teacher. It teaches you there is beauty in many forms. It teaches you patience. It teaches you humility. It can take you inside of it and connect you to a world you may not have known existed. When art speaks to you it can bring, joy, pain, laughter or grief. In other words, it touches you and becomes extraordinary.
